Standing up and sitting down is something that most people do many times each day. If you suffer from a muscular disease or joint disease, then this movement could be painful and it also often leads to a loss of balance. Rather than risking injury or relying on a nurse or family, many people use lift chairs. A lift chair is one type of home medical equipment that can be used to allow a single individual to stand or sit without assistance.
A very strong and reliable lifting mechanism is attached to the bottom of a lift chair. This mechanism is controlled by remote control and raises the the chair into the air. When the lift chair has been fully raised, you can safely transition to a standing position. They are also used to allow the user to sit in a controlled manner.
There are several different types of lift chairs and they come in various shapes and sizes. Some have special features like built in massage and heat or wireless remotes. Others utilize classic recliner designs. There are many different designs available, so it is never difficult to find one that will look excellent in your living room.
Lift chairs are also classified into 3 different categories that describe the way the backrest and footrest function.
2-Position Lift Chairs: The back of a 2-position lift chair reclines about 45 degrees to a position that is sometimes called TV Recline. This allows the user to comfortable watch their favorite TV show or to read a book.
3-Position Lift Chairs: This type of chair is capable of reclining to a position that is near horizontal, which is great for sleeping. These recliners are incredibly comfortable.
>Infinite Position Lift Chairs: This type of lift chair, like the 3-position lift chair, is able to recline to an almost horizontal position. However, the backrest and footrest of an infinite position lift chair are controlled independently of one another. This means that you can recline the back of the chair without moving the footrest, which allows for many different combinations of ergonomic sitting and sleeping positions.
So does this mean my 3-position lift chair only has 3 positions? No. Both the footrest and the backrest are controlled by an electric motor in the chair. A simple push of the remote control will recline the chair. You can stop at any position up until you reach the chairs limit.
Since the backrest and footrest are controlled by remote control, you can create an almost unlimited number of positions, which are limited only by how far the chair can recline. This offers a tremendous advantage over traditional recliners, which rely on back pressure to recline and maintain the reclined position.
