Today Golden Technologies is a well known and respected manufacturer of home mobility equipment.

They manufacture quality lift chairs, mobility scooters, electric power wheelchairs, and adjustable beds from their large 122,000 sq. foot manufacturing facility in Old Forge, Pennsylvania.

Their current facility is quite large, but they come from much humbler beginnings. In 1985 Robert Golden, Sr., and Fred Kiwak began manufacturing lift chairs in a small garage in Pittston, PA.

Lift chairs were very popular at the time, but the current manufactures were simply taking an existing recliner and adding a lifting mechanism to it. Many were also using an unsafe spring loaded lifting mechanism, which can be very dangerous and resulted in many injuries.

Golden and Kiwak set out to create a lift chair that was safe to use and of quality construction. Their first custom built lift chairs were developed in that garage and they used an electric lifting mechanism that provided smooth and steady movement. By setting higher manufacturing standards, Golden forced the competition to follow suit and so helped improve the overall quality of lift chairs across the country.

In 1991 Golden’s son, Richard Golden, took over the company and soon they began manufacturing adjustable beds. They began manufacturing mobility scooters in 1996 and has provided the Veterans Administration with many of the mobility scooters they provided to injured soldiers and veterans.

In addition to manufacturing quality lift chairs, they are also provide a great place to work for many Americans. They currently employ 160 regional employees in their Pennsylvania facility and were voted the Lackawanna County Small Business of the Year in 2002. In addition to providing an excellent work environment, Golden gives extensively to charity and their community.
